Deliblato Sands is one of Serbia’s most unusual natural landscapes. Located in southeastern Vojvodina, between the Danube and the foothills of the Carpathians, this vast sandy area feels very different from the fertile plains that surround it.
A Unique Landscape
Wind-shaped dunes, grasslands, forests and wetlands create a remarkable mosaic of habitats. The once-moving sands were gradually stabilised through organised afforestation, and today the reserve supports a rich variety of plant and animal life.
The landscape is especially attractive to visitors who enjoy walking, cycling, nature photography and birdwatching. Near the village of Deliblato, the Čardak Education Centre is a useful starting point for exploring marked walking and cycling routes.
What to See
Devojački Bunar, in the northern part of the area, is a popular recreation and weekend destination surrounded by woodland. On the eastern edge, the Zagajica Hills offer some of the reserve’s most distinctive scenery.
Towards the Danube, the landscape changes again, with pastures, wetlands and river habitats around Labudovo Okno. This diversity makes Deliblato Sands particularly valuable for wildlife and protected plant species.
Visiting Deliblato Sands
Deliblato Sands is an excellent choice for a nature-focused excursion from Belgrade or a longer stay in southern Banat. Comfortable footwear, drinking water and sun protection are recommended, especially during warmer months.
