Kopaonik is Serbia’s largest mountain massif and its best-known ski destination. Often called the “Mountain of the Sun” because of its many clear days, it combines winter sports, mountain scenery and a well-developed tourist centre.
Serbia’s Leading Ski Resort
The main resort lies high on the mountain, surrounded by hotels, apartments, restaurants, cafés and sports facilities. In winter, Kopaonik attracts both beginners and experienced skiers, while visitors who prefer a slower pace can enjoy snowy walks, mountain restaurants and the lively atmosphere of the resort.
The ski area includes a broad network of alpine runs as well as routes for Nordic skiing. Some slopes are also prepared for night skiing, extending the experience after sunset.
National Park and Pančić Peak
Kopaonik was declared a national park in 1981 because of its natural importance. Its highest point is Pančić Peak, at just over 2,000 metres above sea level, named after the Serbian botanist and naturalist Josif Pančić.
Beyond the ski slopes, the mountain contains forests, highland meadows and striking rocky landscapes. Areas such as Bele Stene show a wilder side of Kopaonik and are a reminder that the mountain is much more than a winter resort.
Beyond Skiing
Kopaonik is active throughout the year. Hiking, cycling and nature excursions make it attractive outside the snow season, while winter brings skiing, snowboarding and a busy après-ski scene. This combination makes Kopaonik one of Serbia’s most versatile mountain destinations.
